Critical Issues Seminar - April 18, 2023
On Tuesday, April 18th, the ASCE Philadelphia Younger Member Forum hosted the 2023 Critical Issues Seminar at Second District Brewing in South Philadelphia to discuss this year’s topic - the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA), also commonly referred to as the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law (BIL). The Professional Development Co-chairs, Caroline Voigtsberger, E.I.T., and Tyler Farley, E.I.T., led a moderated panel discussion on the IIJA/BIL as a whole, as well as what the law means for Pennsylvania and the City of Philadelphia. Our distinguished panel of experts included Api Appulingam, P.E., Deputy Director of Aviation, Capital Development at both the Philadelphia International Airport (PHL) and the Northeast Philadelphia Airport (PNE), Jesse Buerk, Manager, Office of Capital Programs for DVRPC, and Natasha Fackler, Infrastructure Implementation Coordinator for PennDOT. Each of the panelists provided valuable insight into the available funding opportunities that the law continues to provide, as well as the current and anticipated projects & programs funded that support the BIL’s goals of increasing workforce opportunities, supporting disadvantaged and underserved communities, and addressing equity, accessibility, resiliency, safety, and sustainability. Thank you to Api, Jesse, and Natasha for taking the time out of their busy days to share their expertise on the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA), to Second District Brewing for hosting us and providing us with the delicious dinner & drinks, and to all attendees that joined us.
