  • Annual Election Happy Hour - May 12, 2022

    On May 12 ASCE YMF held their election happy hour at Craft Hall. It was a fun event where attenddees got to network and the ASCE Board got vote for their 2022-2023 executive board. Congratulations to our new President Tim Abel, Vice PResident Kirsten Brown, Treasurer Kevin Walsh, and Secretary Assunta Duprano. Thank you Dennis Wilson, Lindsay Chateauvert, and John Doyle for leading our executive board in 2021-2022.

  • Spring Adopt-A-Highway Cleanup - April 30, 2022

    On April 30, the ASCE Philadelphia YMF and ASHE Delaware Valley YMC teamed up to clean our 2 miles of adopted highway. Volunteers picked up trash on Bethlehem Pike between Lafayette Ave Connector and Butler Pike in Ambler. Thank you to all of our volunteers who came out to have a positive impact on the community and environment. Thank you to Fireside Bar & Grille for providing the meeting location!

  • YMF Annual Winter Social - March 21, 2022

    On Monday, March 21st, the YMF hosted their annual Winter Social at McGillin’s Olde Ale House. This tradition was another great success with 100 local, young engineers in attendance for a night of networking, raffles, food, and fun.
    As part of the event, the YMF collected donations from over 25 local engineering companies and held its annual Charity Raffle. Proceeds from both totaled nearly $6,000 in funds to be donated to local non-profit organizations and STEM initiatives.
    The YMF would like to extend its sincerest thanks to all of our donors for their continued support, as well as to everyone who came out to the event and support the YMF in other ways throughout the year. We could not do it without you!

  • K-12 Outreach - Samuel Fels High School - March 17, 2022

    On March 17, the YMF had their fifth K-12 Outreach program for the 2021-2022 school year. To reduce the spread of COVID-19 and other illness, volunteers presented virtually to in-person classes. K-12 Outreach co-chairs, Christian Antisell and Ben Deatrich, were joined by YMF board members CJ Medora of WSP, and Caroline Voigtsberger of Pennoni. The volunteers spoke to an Algebra 2 class about civil engineering, discussed basic structural principles, and answered their questions. The students then completed an in-person activity led by their teacher. Thank you to our volunteers for taking the time out of their Thursday afternoon to volunteer!   • K-12 Outreach - Central Bucks High School - March 10, 2022

    On March 10, the YMF had their fourth K-12 Outreach program for the 2021-2022 school year. To reduce the spread of COVID-19 and other illness, volunteers presented virtually to in-person classes. K-12 Outreach co-chairs, Christian Antisell and Ben Deatrich, were joined by YMF board member CJ Medora of WSP, and Api Appulingam from the City of Philadelphia. The volunteers spoke to the school's Leadership in Engineering Club about civil engineering, and answered their questions.   • K-12 Outreach - North Penn High School - March 2, 2022

    On March 2, the YMF had their third K-12 Outreach program for the 2021-2022 school year. To reduce the spread of COVID-19 and other illness, volunteers presented virtually to in-person classes. K-12 Outreach co-chairs, Christian Antisell and Ben Deatrich, were joined by YMF board member Caroline Voigtsberger of Pennoni, former board member Dani Schroeder of Pennoni, and Egla Qori of AECOM.   • ASCE YMF, ASHE, MASITE Joint Winter Mixer - February 2, 2022

    ASCE teamed up with ASHE and MASITE to plan an amazing night at the Blue Cross River Rink! 75 Young engineers came out to network with each other by the cozy fire pits at Blue Cross River rink. Everyone got to enjoy a full meal from Chickie and Petes complete with a bucket of fries and cheese. After the photos and delicious food, some skated, others watched hoping to see some wipeouts. Luckily everyone stayed safe and had a wonderful time.

  • K-12 Outreach - Plymouth Whitemarsh High School - January 4, 2022

    On January 4, the YMF had their second K-12 Outreach program for the 2021-2022 school year, consisting of presentations to 3 high school engineering classes. To reduce the spread of COVID-19 and other illness, volunteers presented virtually to in-person classes. K-12 Outreach co-chairs, Christian Antisell and Ben Deatrich, were joined by YMF board member CJ Medora of WSP, as well as Alyssa Pizzi of TransSystems, Bilal Baqi of the DCNR, Elvira Mikhael of Traffic Planning and Design, Laura Saleh of Pennoni, Spencer Nush of HDR, Kerianne Chen of Traffic Planning and Design, and Elizaebth DeMarshall of Pennoni. The volunteers spoke to high school students about civil engineering, and answered their questions. Thank you to our volunteers for taking the time out of their Tuesday morning to volunteer!   • K-12 Outreach - Radnor Elementary School - December 20, 2021

    On December 20, the YMF had their first K-12 Outreach program for the 2020-2021 school year. To reduce the spread of COVID-19 and other illness, volunteers presented virtually to an in-person class. K-12 Outreach co-chairs, Christian Antisell and Ben Deatrich, were joined by YMF board members Caroline Voigtsberger of Pennoni and Darren Black of Jacobs, as well as Laura Saleh of Pennoni, and Kerianne Chen of Traffic Planning and Design. The volunteers spoke to 2nd Grade Students about civil engineering, introduced them to structural engineering concepts, and answered their questions.   • Urban Farming Volunteer & Service Day with Life Do Grow Farm - November 20, 2021

    On Saturday, November 20th, the ASCE Philly YMF partnered with Urban Creators to do some autumn gardening at Life Do Grow farm. Volunteers raked leaves, picked weeds, cleaned up trash, and placed new mulch on the farm. The weather was beautiful and volunteers were treated to lunch around the campfire as a thank you for their hard work. Thanks to Philly Urban Creators for hosting us!

  • JEDI Bike Tour - November 6, 2021

    On November 6, the YMF's JEDI Committee held a bike tour through southern Center City to highlight and discuss some of the typically underrepresented communities in Philadelphia. The 3.75 mile long tour stopped at 8 different locations and highlighted 14 different people and places that helped to shape the city we know today!   • Fall Adopt-A-Highway Cleanup - October 16, 2021

    On October 16, the ASCE Philadelphia YMF and ASHE Delaware Valley YMC teamed up to clean our 2 miles of adopted highway. Volunteers picked up trash on Bethlehem Pike between Lafayette Ave Connector and Butler Pike in Ambler. Thank you to all of our volunteers who came out on our second weekend in a row. We were fortunate to have beautiful weather and wrap everything up before the torrential downpour. Thank you to Fireside Bar & Grille for providing the meeting location!

  • TTF Watershed - October 9, 2021

    On October 9, the ASCE Philadelphia YMF teamed up with the Tookany/Tacony-Frankford Watershed to hold a tree planting event. Volunteers planted 65 trees in an easement area given by the Scattergood Foundation adjacent to the Frankford Creek. The planting effort will help reintroduce native plant species to help control erosion, improving the water quality of the Frankford Creek before it flows into the Delaware River.

  • Phillies Game and Tailgate - September 24, 2021

    On October 9, the ASCE Philadelphia YMF teamed up with the Tookany/Tacony-Frankford Watershed to hold a tree planting event. Volunteers planted 65 trees in an easement area given by the Scattergood Foundation adjacent to the Frankford Creek. The planting effort will help reintroduce native plant species to help control erosion, improving the water quality of the Frankford Creek before it flows into the Delaware River.
