Mid-Atlantic Region Student Conference Joint Networking & Welcome Social - April 22, 2016
On Friday, April 22, 2016, the YMF, in conjunction with Drexel University--host of this years MARSC--hosted a networking social as the Welcome Event for all the students attending the conference. Held at 2nd Story Brewing Company in the Old City area of Philadelphia, the event was certainly a success with many students in attendance, as well as a number of local young engineers. It was a great kick-off before the weekend's main events: the concrete canoe and steel bridge competitions!

Critical Issues Seminar - April 21, 2016
On Thursday, April 21, 2016, the YMF hosted its annual Critical Issues Seminar at Time Restaurant, Whiskey Bar & Taproom in Downtown Philadelphia. The topic for this year's panel discussion was "Grassroots Engineering: Government Relations for the Young Engineer" and featured panelists Rina Cutler, Senior Director Major Stations, Planning & Development for Amtrak; David Lowdermilk, PE, Pennsylvania Statewide Operations Manager for WSP | Parsons Brinckerhoff; Eric Madden, Executive Vice President for the American Council of Engineering Companies, PA; and Beth Ann Ray, Senior Manager, Grassroots Advocacy, for the American Society of Civil Engineers. The discussion was very insightful and many excellent questions were answered related to the importance of getting involved with advocacy, as well as how to go about getting involved (even at a very local level). We're already looking forward to next year's seminar!

Joint Adopt-A-Highway Cleanup Event - April 17, 2016
On Sunday, April 17, 2016, the ASCE YMF and ASHE YMG did a little spring cleaning with the first joint Adopt-A-Highway cleanup event of 2016! The 14 volunteers in attendance walked the two-mile section of Bethlehem Pike in Ambler, PA, picking up 105 pounds of garbage(!) along the way and bringing the route back to our beautiful standard! As usual, there was a short snack break at the turnaround point, as well as refreshments afterwards at the Fireside Bar and Grille. We look forward to the next cleanup event (more info to follow).

Annual Winter Social - January 25, 2016
On Monday, January 25, 2016, the YMF held it's most popular event: the Annual Winter Social. Held (yet again) at McGillin's Olde Ale House in Downtown Philadelphia, the event drew another huge crowd with approximately 200 people in attendance and gave away lots of great raffle prizes on the way to collecting over $2,100 in donations to give away to various local charitable organizations. As always, the event couldn't be possible without the help of all of our sponsors. And an extra big shout-out to Vice President Kevin Brown, EIT, for his role as the primary organizer this year.

The event was held at Ladder 15 in Downtown Philadelphia, and was free with 1.0 PDH provided to attendees and hors d'oeuvres provided by the YMF.

On Tuesday, October 20, 2015, the ASCE Philadelphia YMF hosted a Welcome Back Bowling event at Pep Bowl in Philadelphia. The event was well attended with at least 16 students and 16 engineering professionals at the event. Providing students an environment to socialize with their colleagues while in the presence of engineering/construction professionals, allowed students to comfortably engage in conversation and develop their networking skills. Pizza and soft drinks were provided by the YMF and a trophy was awarded to the student with the highest score.

The 12 volunteers in attendance walked the two-mile section of Bethlehem Pike in Ambler, PA, picking up lots of litter along the way and making the route look great! There was a short snack break at the turnaround point, as well as refreshments afterwards at the Fireside Bar and Grille, where the group was thanked by several of the patrons for their hard work cleaning up the neighborhood. Keep an eye out for the next cleanup date in Spring 2016!

Phillies Game & Tailgate - July 30, 2015
On Thursday, July 30, 2015, the Philadelphia, Delaware, and South Jersey's YMF hosted their annual Phillies game outing. Each year, the three hosting YMFs invite their members, as well as friends, family, and other guests to network during a BYOB tailgate with free food and softdrinks, then enjoy a baseball game at Citizens Bank Park. This year, approximately 101 tickets were sold for the game, and many more came out just for the tailgate. The Phils crushed the Atlanta Braves 4-1 and once again the weather was in our favor that day with bright sunny skies after a quickly passing sunshower.
