General
(from www.ncees.org)
The 8-hour PE examination in civil engineering is administered in two
4-hour sessions, each containing 40 questions. Each question has four
answer options. The morning session covers the breadth of civil engineering.
In the afternoon session the examinee selects one of five alternate
modules: environmental, geotechnical, structural, transportation, or
water resources.
Questions are either single independent questions or grouped in sets
of up to three questions. A set of questions is preceded by information
or data that is common to the questions that follow. The questions supply
any further information specific to that question and define what is
expected as a response to the question. The response required involves
a calculation and/or conclusion that demonstrates competent engineering
judgment.
