On April 30th, 2014, the YMF hosted a Critical Issues Seminar along with MASITE and ASHE Delaware Valley at Field House Philadelphia, PA. The Critical Issues Seminar is a yearly event which focuses on a problematic area in the field of Civil Engineering. A panel of speakers from different disciplines and modes of transportation were chosen to answer a variety of questions from the audience. This year's speakers included Mike Boyer (Manager, Office of Long-Range Planning and Economic Coordination, (DVRPC)), Ann Tomalavage (Past President, (ASCE), Philadelphia Section and Chair, ASCE PA Report Card Committee), Chuck Davies (Assistant District Executive - Design, PennDOT District 6-0), Roy Denmark, Jr (Vice President and Director, Ports, Waterways and Environmental Services Division of Urban Engineers, Inc.), and John Zarsky (Transportation Technology Principal, Pennoni Associates Inc.).

This year's topic involved maintaining and modernizing infrastructure. This topic resulted in discussion on current emphasis on investing in infrastructure improvement and what we as engineers can do to help continue this momentum of awareness and investment.
