On December 19, 2012, YMF President Kazi Hassan and Outreach Coordinator Jesse Gormley delivered a presentation to a group of 10 high school students, primarily seniors and juniors, through the Federation of Neighborhood Centers (FNC). The presentation, which was given at the FNC's Center City Philadelphia office, was meant to spark interest in Civil Engineering (CE) amongst these students, all of whom had base interest in math and the sciences.
The presentation was well-received. The small group allowed for a more personal atmosphere, which let the students feel more comfortable asking questions. Based on the interest of the students, FNC requested that we return at a later date to give the students additional exposure to engineering, including talks on more specific branches of CE as well as demonstrations. In addition to the presentation, YMF distributed numerous pamphlets to provide students information about Civil Engineering.
