On October 14, 2011, ASCE outreach Co-Chair Adrienne Nikolic, P.E., spoke to Mr. Knoflicek science class at General George A. McCall Elementary School about “Engineering Clean Drinking Water.” The presentation included discussion on: an Engineer’s Role in producing cleaning drinking water, the importance of clean drinking water, and the physical and chemical processes involved in water treatment. The presentation was concluded with an experiment, in which the students witnessed “dirty water” purified by the use of coagulant and a mini sand filter (see photo).
